Nice list BUT like most people on here I think pulp fiction is the number one movie.
Of course it is always Down to personal preference. Also I gotta say I thought I was the only one that really loved death proof.

I’m a huge movie buff but I don’t always make it to see movies in theaters. Some times I have to wait and sometimes I have to read reviews about the movies before watching them. In this case, of course, I’m reading reviews. Even though I absolutely adore Shailene Woodley and love George Clooney, you never know what to expect from movies these days. That is probably why I have stopped watch movies in theaters and got Blockbuster @Home from DISH. It is only one monthly fee and I don’t have to drive to movies. Any ways although many people might not think that The Descendants was a good movie, many other people like a few of my DISH co-workers did. I would never call a movie terrible but I will say what it need to be improved on in my opinion. I always place myself in the main characters shoes and see if I would act that way if I was in that position. That always helps me appreciate a movie more. I still want to see The Descendants because I heard Shailene Woodley’s role was amazing I can’t wait to see it!

Even if Renton did change the way you described I wouldn’t say he’s no longer an antihero. My statement that was proposed prior still stands. There is no certainty that he changed, he just says he chooses life. Besides, the possibility of redemption wasn’t a big deal for me because regardless the same ideas are established. That’s why the film ended where it did. There was thematic closure, but a lack of closure on Renton’s character arc and the way I looked at it, it was perfect.

Well, I mean, in terms of Renton, he doesn’t necessarily become the perfect, streamlined hero, but the thing is that at the end, he’s reformed the way that he views the world and his place in it. At the beginning of the film, he chooses to not choose life, instead choosing to numb himself to life, abusing heroine in an attempt to distance himself from the world and create a reality for himself where he doesn’t have to deal with the problems of the world. In the frame of mind that he holds at the beginning of the film, conformity to a calm, sustainable life is an incredibly terrifying idea. However, by the end of the movie, he realizes that by accepting the terms of an ‘average’ life, he will find more freedom than he has under the all-consuming yoke of heroin and chooses life. Major character change; switches from anti-society to pro-society; ergo, Redemption.

That would be interesting, but with those two examples I wouldn’t say that either really become heroes. I mean maybe I’d give you Jules, but I wouldn’t say Mark Renton is a hero by the end. We’ve seen him off heroine before and then he relapses. It’s ambiguous as to whether or not he actually stays off of it. Regardless though, Renton’s change or lack there of isn’t the point of the movie for me. If it were he might’ve been higher on my list, but Trainspotting isn’t defined by it’s characters, it uses its characters to establish broader ideas of being.

It would be really cool to see a Redemption list, i.e. antiheroes that throughout the course of the film become heroes. Trainspotting and Pulp Fiction are great examples. It would be sooooooo legit.

Great list. I would definitely include Martha Marcy May Marlene, as definitely one of the most chilling films I’ve seen in a long time, with some incredible performances.
Also, Hugo is at this point either my number one or number two. And no Tree of Life?

In one that might not make my top ten but is totally worth a mention – Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is absolutely awesome. Have you seen it yet?

My brother and I are currently doing brief reviews of the 2011 movies we’ve watched and I suspect I’ll put together my top 10 after we finish that project.

I wasn’t particularly excited about seeing this movie, but my friends brought me along to watch it, and I am definitely glad they did. There were so many laughs in this movie! I was so surprised to see Jennifer Aniston acting so… naughty! It was hilarious though! I can’t wait to see this movie again. I used my Blockbuster Movie Pass to rent this, and I never get tired of it. One of the best advantages to having the Blockbuster Movie Pass is the fact that I can rent pretty much any movie I want whenever I want. Plus, I can stream many movies right to my TV or computer. Whether or not I worked for DISH, I would still have and use the Blockbuster Movie Pass because they have more movies than I could ever watch! I’ll never see Friends the same!

I’m not a huge Harry Potter fan so you might be disappointed with my review (http://moviesfilmsmotionpictures.com/2011/09/29/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-ii-review/), but this last one was probably the most satisfactory for me. I have not seen Super 8 or Jane Eyre yet.
