Top Ten Dark Knight Characters

I think by now most of us agree that The Dark Knight is a spectacular movie. One might ask the question, What makes The Dark Knight spectacular? Well, you can find my opinion to that question here. This list is dedicated to one of the many big reasons why The Dark Knight is an incredible movie, and that reason is the ell-acted characters behind the movie. Here’s my ten favorite.

!!! SPOILERS !!!

10. The Bank Manager

This aggressive bank manager runs a mob bank with an iron fist. He’s not afraid to kill any clowns (literally) who try to steal from him and his bosses.

9. Coleman Reese

The Wayne Enterprises executive who knows who Batman is and eventually releases that the world needs him, luckily before he spills the beans.

8. Sal Maroni

The heir to the Falcone crime syndicate became too power hungry when he and his friends unwittingly hired The Joker to do their dirty work, not knowing what he was actually getting him self into.

7. Rachel Dawes

A  much more arresting Rachel Dawes than the first. Instead of just being a damsel in distress, she was able to hold her own when needed.

6. Lucius Fox

He is a comic relief character who plays a lot bigger part than in in the first. He can help Batman with any toy he needs and knows better than most the rue meaning of right and wrong.

5. Batman/Bruce Wayne

The ultimate good in a cruel world. So good that he’s will ing to take the blame for multiple murders in order to save the the people who hate him.

4. Jim Gordan

Commissioner Gordan is a brave and good officer, one of the few. He faked his death in order to stop the plaque that was spreading in gotham. A good man who would give his life to save the people he loves.

3. Alfred Pennyworth

A kind and intelligent butler whose always there to help the people he loves when they’re down. He’s played to perfection by Michael Caine and he is like a father to Bruce when he most certainly needs one.

2. Harvey “Two-Face” Dent

Mr. Dent represents the ultimate representation of man vs. self. In the beginning he is the definition of good, knowing farwell that Batman is more than just a vigilante, but a hero among men. Half way through he becomes a murderer in search of revenge who by the end of it all has Joker’s words coming out of his mouth.

1. (This must’ve been surprising) The Joker

The Joker is not just the greatest Dark Knight Character, but also the greatest character in film history. No explanation I give here will do the character so just go here. All I can say is that he’s intense and comically evil. He’s brilliantly made into the most iconic villain of all time in my opinion by the genius of an actor Heath Ledger. He’s pure evil, a masterpiece of a performance by a brilliant actor.

Top Ten Comic Book/Graphic Novel Movies

Through the years movies have been made based on comic books, graphic novels or comic book characters. Some have been excellent movies worthy of the praise any other movie might get in a different less childish genre. Some have not been so good, anyone remember Daredevil or X-Men 3. Well, this list isn’t about the comic book movies that were terrible, it’s about the comic book movies that were good. When you here comic book, you might think of super powers, but that’s not always true. In fact, more than half the movies on the list don’t involve any powers. Well here’s a list of my top ten favorite movies based on comic books or comic book characters:

10. The Mask

The decently comically written movie was made hilarious by funny man Jim Carrey.

9. A History of Violence

The grisly crime thriller, is well acted, violent and intelligently woven.

8. Batman

The original Tim Burton film was fun to watch because of the beautiful sets and the hysterical performance by Jack Nicholson.

7. The Incredible Hulk

The action sequences were intense and creative, while the acting was top-notch.

6. Spider-Man

The original Spider-Man was an excellent way to get the genre started back again.

5. Iron Man

This was an excellent film filled with entertaining scenes and acting.

4. V for Vendetta

A dark and entertaining criticism on society.

3. Sin City

This Pulp Fiction hybrid is visually spectacular.

2. Batman Begins

A dark and moody film that started a series of perfection.

1. The Dark Knight

A flawless film about good vs. evil and the choices they are forced to make. The Dark Knight isn’t just the greatest comic book movie, but also one of the greatest movies of all time.

Top Ten Joker Quotes

In honor of the loss of a great actor and a the coming of an amazing movie. I give you my top ten favorite lines from Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight. It was hard to pick a top ten because basically every single one of is lines is made memorable by this incredible performance, but I did my best. Here they are:

P.S.: This post contains spoilers, if you have not seen the movie (do), but don’t read this until you have.

!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!

First, the quotes that almost made it on the list (in no particular order):

  • “It’s not about the money, it’s about sending a message. Everything burns!”
  • “I’m like a dog chasing cars, I wouldn’t know what to do if I caught one, you know, I’d just do…things.”
  • “Let’s put a smile on that face!”
  • “Those mob fools want you gone. So they can get back to the way things were. But I know the truth, there’s no going back. You’ve changed things…forever.”
  • “And I thought my jokes were bad.”
Top Ten:

10. “The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules. And tonight, you’re gonna break your one rule.”

9. “Do you want to know why I use a knife? You see, guns are too quick. You can’t savor all of the little…emotions. In their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way…I knew your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?”

8. “I believe… whatever doesn’t kill you simply makes you…stranger.”

7. (When told that he has a 50% chance of living) “Ummm, Now we’re talkin.”

6. “Introduce a little anarchy, upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos, I’m an agent of chaos , and you know the thing about chaos? It’s fair.”

5. “I don’t wanna kill you, what would I do without you? Go back to rippin’ off mob dealers… no, no, no… no you, you complete me.”

4. “You can’t rely on anyone these days, you gotta do everything yourself, don’t we? That’s ok, I came prepared, it’s a funny world we live in. Speaking of which, you know how I got these scars?”

3. “I took gotham’s white knight and I brought ‘im down to our level. Madness, as you know, is a lot like gravity, all it takes is a little push. ”

2. “Don’t talk like one of them, you’re not! Even if you’d like to be. To them, you’re just a freak–like me. They need you right now. When they don’t…they’ll cast you out. Like a leper. See, their morals, their code: it’s a bad joke. They’re dropped at the first sign of trouble. They’re only as good as the world allows them to be. You’ll see, when the chips are down these civilized people will eat each other. Ya see I’m not a monster, I was just ahead of the curve.”

1. “You… you just couldn’t let me go could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You are truly incorruptable aren’t you. You won’t kill me because of some misplaced sense of self-rightousness. And I won’t kill you because…you’re just too much fun. I get the feeling that you and I are destined to do this forever.”

R.I.P. Heath, and thank-you for giving the world a performance of a life time.

The Dark Knight Review

This movie has undoubtedly exceeded my very unrealistic expectations , in fact, this movie would have exceeded my expectations no matter how high they were. I am sick of his movie being compared to stupid movies like Spider-Man and Fantastic Four because saying that this movie is one of the greatest comic book movies of all time is bringing it down a notch, because folks believe it or not this is by far the greatest comic book movie of all time, and not only that, but it’s also one of the greatest movies of all time period. That’s right, I said it, and I’ll say it again, this is one of the greatest movies of all time. What are you gonna do, call me a fan boy, say that I would’ve liked it even if it sucked because it was a Batman movie. That’s not true at all, I didn’t start liking Batman until Batman Begins, which was in my opinion an A+ movie, but this was so much better in so many ways. This is an amazing movie, if you miss seeing it, I’m sorry.

Let me start my next comment with a little message to the 1 to 1000000000000000 ratio of critics who didn’t like this movie. There was barely any of you out there, but to that minimal amount of people, Fuck You. I’m sorry, I know that I’m supposed to allow everyone to have their own opinion, but I can’t think of a single reason to give this movie below an A, and A+ for that matter. The only reason I could possibly think of is the fact that you couldn’t handle everyone in the world liking it, so you had to be the few people to give it a bad grade, or maybe it was that you couldn’t handle the fact that this genre of movie could bring a movie this amazing. Whatever the reason, to those very few critics who didn’t give this movie a good grade, find a new profession and fast, the one you have right now isn’t going to work out.

This movie was flawless, I could watch this movie 100 times and still not figure out a single thing that bothered me in the movie. It was flawlessly directed, written, and acted by every cast member especially Ledger, but I’ll get to that later. Maggie was ten times the Rachel Dawes that Holmes was. Aaron Eckhart was delightfully cool and fun that transforms into disfigured and dangerous, and he makes the part his own with such indiscribeble flair. Caine and Freeman are at the top of their game as always. Christian Bale was fantastic, he added much more complexity to a complex character, he surpassed his original already good performance with flying colors.

Now we get to Heath Ledger, I’ve been looking forward to this performance for a year now, where as I was anticipating the movie itself for three years. My expectations for this character were off the charts, I knew this character would be amazing, but to tell you the truth, I had no idea. The Joker actually exceeded my expectations, he was insane, disturbing, hysterically funny, suicidal, and loads o fun. It is impossible for a character to be better than this, impossible. I am just sad that I started my Top 50 characters list before I saw this movie, he would have been near the top, For Sure. I don’t want to give anything away, but lets just say that he makes feel insecure while he’s around you because he torments your mind with disturbing choices. The Joker is what you would get if you put Jack Torrence, Alex DeLarge, Hannibal Lecter, and paint in a blender and then multiplied it all by 10. Heath Ledger/The Joker is amazing, he kills, destroys and burns, whatever comes his way for one purpose only, to have a blast. Well, while The Joker was having a blast, I was having a blast watching him. He put a smile on my face every time he walked on the screen.

The Dark Knight is spectacular. Oh, forgot to mention this, this is a comic book movie so every kid on earth is gonna wanna see, but take my word for it, do not bring children to this movie. As much as I want to see this movie make a lot of money because it’s amazing I’m gonna have to say do not do it, this movie is not and will never be intended towards children. Anyways, back to the review, The Dark Knight could not have been better than this was. Go see it multiple times now, you will not regret it. If you go in there wanting to have a good time, you’ll have and amazing time. If you go in there thinking you’ll have an ok time, you’ll have an amazing time. If you were dragged into it and you hate Batman and super hero films, you’ll have an amazing time. If you go in there trying to be a critic and attempting to point out flaws because you feel that there has to be at least one person who hates it, you’ll still probably have an amazing time, except for a few of you who are blinded by comic book physique. I know I said it multiple times already, but I’m going to say it again with a few different adjectives, The Dark Knight was unbelievably incredible and leaves you with an astonished speechlessness. This is why I love movies. The Dark Knight is a masterpiece.

Grade: A+

The Dark Knight Expectations

Above you’ll see my ticket for the earliest time I can see the movie that I have been anticipating for 3 years, The Dark Knight. I stare at from time to time just wondering and praying that it will live up to the unrealistic expectations I’ve given it. Not unrealistic to The Dark Knight though, unrealistic to any movie. I look at reviews from my favorite site Rope of Silicon, Dark Knight Movie Review. I look at reviews from Rolling Stones and Rotten Tomatoes, Rolling Stones Review and RT Reviews, and I ask the golden question. Will The Dark Knight live up to all this hype? That has been the golden question through-out this entire month and now I’m finally asking it.

MY EXPECTATIONS:

I want to see this movie more then I have ever wanted to see a movie before in my life, no joke. I honestly think that this movie will be top ten material if not top five. Batman Begins was an incredible movie, the best comic book movie by far. I believe this movie will be as good as Batman Begins multiplied by the awesome character that will be the Joker, which will easily be a 10, soooo…

The Dark Knight= Batman Begins x 10

Those are my expectations, will I be satisfied when the clock strikes two and a half hours after 12:01, will I be sad, or will my expectations even be exceeded? Who knows, but what I do know is this…

WHAT I DO KNOW:

I know that and I knew since december of last year that this movie will make more then any other movie this year and I would and would have bet a lot of money on that fact. I know what I would do if this movie was bad. I’ve been asked the question, “What would you do if it sucked?”, about a hundred times and the answer is always the same; “It won’t”, I say jokingly because how could I possibly know that, then I say; “I’d kill myself”, another joke, because my real answer is; “I’d go into a constant state of depression for awhile and have to start looking for a new movie to anticipate.” What I do know at the end of it all is this, I know that I will buy this movie on DVD the day it comes out because I KNOW GOOD MOVIE OR BAD MOVIE, HEATH LEDGER IS GOING TO BE AMAZING AS THE JOKER.

I lay in my bed every night, looking at the multiple Dark Knight posters I have on my wall, and pray that The Dark Knight will live up to my expectations and yours. I cannot answer this question yet, but I can answer it in 4 days. The second I get home from what I hope to be in my top ten list of greatest movies of all time, I will be on my site writing a review for the long awaited movie of 2008 and I hope and pray that it’s a good one. This being Heath Ledger’s last movie will be the one that he will be remembered for, let us all pray that it is a good memory. I raise my imaginary champagne glass “To Heath”, who will now and forever be very missed. I leave you now with my favorite Dark Knight trailer and TV Spot.
