Gone Baby Gone

Surprisingly, this was a decently entertaining movie. It had a very interesting story that wasn’t as simple as it seemed. Its also not as predictable as it seems. Ben Affleck did a good job for once. He created a good puzzle that the viewer has to put together, but there were some problems in my opinion. I really didn’t relate to or enjoy many of the characters, they were kind of annoying. The only two I liked was Ed Harris’ character and Morgan Freeman’s character, who was only in the movie for about five minutes. Also, and many might disagree with me here, I really didn’t enjoy the ending. Other then that , the movie was good and can be talked about more than many other movies. !!!SPOILER!!! Don’t read ahead if you haven’t seen this movie!!!Why did Casey feel that he could be judge, jury, and executioner by killing this cocaine addict, but when a good family is going to take care of the little girl, he has to call the cops because it’s the right thing. Those parts contradict each other and were poorly written. Grade: B

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

This is an incredibly well made and well acted movie. It could stand on its own visually and narrated in a way that makes you really pay attention when the narrator is talking. This is a pretty long movie (160 min), but it doesn’t leave anything out and makes you feel like your really there. Unlike most westerns, this movie is realistically told and doesn’t just throw a bunch of guns and action at you. This was a very interesting history lesson, but don’t get discouraged when I say history lesson because this is one lesson you don’t want to be texting during.  Grade: A

Top Ten Movies of 2007

Keep in mind, that when reading this list, I have not seen every movie to come out this year, including ones that I here are pretty good. Jesse James in particular. When and if I see this movie and more I will change my list accordingly, but for right now, this is how it stands:

  • 10. American Gangster
  • I enjoyed this movie for its acting and some of its memorable scenes. Such as the one with Ruby Dee. Denzel is an amazing actor and Crowe wasn’t bad, which is saying something because I don’t usually like him.
  • 9. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
  • Ok so sue me, I put Pirates of the Caribbean on my list. I loved it. It was an entertaining movie.
  • 8. Michael Clayton
  • Good movie that really presented good dialogue/lines with great acting.
  • 7. Zodiac
  • Dark, intense, entertaining. It was made intelligently and it was fun to watch.
  • 6. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
  • Well made, interesting to watch, made you feel like you were there feeling the same anxieties of every character.
  • 5. Hot Fuzz
  • Pure entertainment. Period.
  • 4. There Will Be Blood
  • Daniel-Day Lewis, nough said. This movie would not be as amazing as it was and it was, without him.
  • 3. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
  • Entertainment at its full-blown best. You can’t look away. Amazing music, amazing movie.
  • 2. Death Proof
  • Yes Death Proof. I know a lot of people will disagree with this, but I’m sorry, I love this movie. Every last dialogue filled second. Oh No god forbid a movie thats supposed to just have action have realistic dialogue. I love this movie and it is my #2.
  • 1. No Country For Old Men
  • This movie is amazing. The tension just builds and builds and builds eventually making its way to one of the best endings I’ve ever seen. Huh good ending, nah. That is what dumb people will think after reading that last statement. This movie had a great symbolic ending. When I saw this movie some annoying girl behind me got up and yelled quote on quote, “Worst Movie I’ve Ever Seen!” I wanted to stand up and punch her in the face. First of all, no one cares what you think, second of all that movie is amazing, third of all, god forbid you have to think at the end of a movie that has guns and violence in it. This movie is amazing. go see it.

Final Note: Great Year for movies, I thoroughly enjoyed every movie that was nominated for Best Picture, and one that wasn’t even more then most that were (Sweeney Todd). No Country For Old Men won every most important award. An acting, a writing, a directing, and even the Picture. It’s an amazing movie and if you haven’t seen it yet, you need to (it comes out on DVD March 11th, mark your calendars). It was a great year with great movies and even a few surprises at the Oscars.

Amount I got right out of 24: 11

Eastern Promises

This was a very good movie that seemed to be looked past by most people. It was the graphic, intense, and excellent tale of how the lives of a Russian Mafia “driver” and a doctor who unwittingly finds evidence on his boss intertwine. This was a very graphic movie which added to its somewhat realism. The movie was incredibly acted and probably the best I’ve seen Viggo Mortenson do. This wasn’t also just a movie with a good story and good acting, it was also a very entertaining movie. The only problem was that it was a bit short for this kind of movie, you found your self asking for more at the end. Its worth seeing, you won’t regret it.  Grade: A-
